Event Guide | January 2023

After our first year back dancing after covid, 2022 brought some of the top DJs to our dance floors. We saw the emergence of new collectives and the resurgence of older collectives who reminded us why they are notorious for their parties. Now we look forward to 2023, with some of the events already announced for January the year is already starting strong. 

Hidden Love x Embedded

Hidden Love and Embedded join forces once again to bring us a very special international artist. They will be taking over Dublin's newest venue; So Below on January 7th. The organisers of both collectives have proven themselves many times over to have elite taste when curating lineups. The special guest will no doubt be one of the highest calibre. 

Support will be provided by Hidden Love residents Spedned b2b Erik Burka. The two of these DJs' stylistic approach to DJing compliments each other in a way that will no doubt create a captivating set. Dylan Fogarty will be on opening duties. He has gained a lot of attention last year with a series of gigs supporting some big names such as TRYM. He is definitely one to watch this year.

Express Presents: MELTX (The Cellar, Galway)

Express Galway brings techno powerhouse MELTX to the Cellar this refreshers week. MELTX has been solidifying herself as one of the most consistent DJs in the Irish scene. Having played multiple gigs in Index, BD Festival, Liverpool, and around the country, MELTX is quickly gaining a name for herself. You can expect to hear not only MELTX’s own tracks but also a combination of different genres. 

Joining MELTX will be Irish DJ and Reboot Resident Keyrah. Keyrah has played alongside many techno heavyweights such as Charlie Sparks, Fionn Curran, and DJ Heartstring. Opening up the dance floor will be SMBG b3b Fiachra b3b Tom Fallon.

BPM Presents: Inaugural Party

Time: Thur, 12 Jan 2023, 11.00pm
Space: The Workmans Club, 10 Wellington Quay, Dublin 2.

BPM host their launch night on Thursday the 12th of January in Workman's Cellar. With a lineup that is known for its genre-bending sets, you can expect anything from Gabber, Garage, Ambient, and everything in between. 

This new collective aims to support upcoming artists within the Irish scene. Opening things up is newcomer Reflekta. Pixieteeth will then be handing things over to Lychee. Lychee quickly rose to be a favourite of many last year after playing sets at some of the top venues and festivals in Ireland this year including Forbidden Fruit.

Influence x Space Collective Presents: Azyr & Lucid

Dublin-based collectives Influence and Space Collective unite on January 13th. They will be taking over the main room and the terrace of The Soundhouse. The main room will be opened by Influence resident Nat Type b2b Space Collective resident Dexterity. This night will be headlined by Blackpool-based DJ Azyr and supported by heavy hitter Luciid. Both Azyr and Luciid will no doubt bring the heat. You can expect a thunderous techno set from Luciid. While Azyr will explore many genres including hard techno, psytrance, and acid. 

The intimate terrace of the Soundhouse will be taken over by Dublin-based DJs Jaamal and Coffey. 

Ar Ais Arís Presents Plus One, DJ IXRQ.

Ar Ais Arís is a Galway-based collective that strives to provide a safe space within an intimate venue. They have showcased many Irish producers and DJs from the underground scene. Their January instalment is set to take place on the 13th of January. 

Resident Hannah Hession will be warming up the dance floor with her arsenal of tracks in the garage and breakbeat genre. There will be a live set provided by producer and DJ IXRQ. They will be using turntables and machines to provide a composite set. PLUS ONE will be headlining this high-energy night. This talented DJ and producer has really been making a name for himself. Taking inspiration from the UK scene, you can expect a vibrant set packed with garage, jungle, and dubstep.

Safehaus Presents: Aquarian

Safehaus brings Aquarian to the unique city centre venue that is Tengu for a master class in breakbeat and dubstep. Aquarius is a very versatile selector who takes inspiration from many different genres of electronic music worldwide. When listening to their sets you can hear the soulful, detached sound of Detroit techno. One can also pick out European influences within his sets. 

Max Ivory and LeeUm will warm up the dance floor for Aquarian. Both of these DJs will provide a versatile and well-rounded set to prepare the crowd for Aquarian. With a lineup like this, you can't go wrong.

Index Presents : Fionn Curran

On January 14th rising star Fionn Curran returns to Index. After an extremely successful year of playing events all over the country, Fionn Curran has quickly become a household name. Dylan Fogarty will be on main support. Another up-and-coming artist growing in popularity for his astonishing sets. Opening things up is the dynamic duo DJ Handsome and DJ Gorgeous. Separately this pair have had their fair share of strong gigs last year. When they DJ together you know you are about to be dancing nonstop from the moment they jump on the decks. 

Room 2 will be taken over by techno giants Reboot. Hosting some of the biggest events in the Irish music scene at the moment, Reboot will undoubtedly have Room 2 hopping from start to finish. 

Bitten Twice Collective Presents: DJ Kuroneko + Harmful Logic

Bitten Twice collective is a Dublin-based group who are expanding the horizons of the Irish electronic music scene. Curating lineups that showcase eclectic sets and push the boundaries of what people define as music. Bitten Twice brings Irish DJs and producers DJ Kuroneko and Harmful Logic to Wigwam's basement. The pair live stream frequently on Twitch from their joint account Lads und Canzer. Their sets will be packed with Jungle, Garage, and Breakbeat. This set will no doubt tear down the basement of Wigwam.

Support will be provided by Fomorian Vein, Julia Louise Knifefist, and Pixieteeth. These artists explore the meaning of music by incorporating noise into their sets. One can see that they are all well-researched in a plethora of genres. This night is definitely one to go to if you are interested in high-energy, face paced electronic music.

Every Friday and Saturday night you can be guaranteed a good night in the Cellar. Hosting lineups of local talent, The Cellar is one of the pillars of the Dublin electronic community. Often having takeovers by Irish collectives it offers artists a space to share their talent. There is a sense of community within the walls of this club. The combination of a great sound system and exceptional talent makes this an easy option when deciding on a night out.
