Female Invasion: Women of Techno
We may only be at the end of January, but the women of Irish techno are not holding back this year and have kick started with an invasion of new sounds these past few weeks. From 160bpm mixes to newly produced tracks, here are ten females that are dominating the industry right now and are have entered the new year with force.
Shannen Blessing @shannen_blessing_
One of Ireland’s most reputable techno artists when it comes to mixing and delivering a track. Mostly recognised for her hits BOSS A$$ B!TCH or her insane HOR set, Shannen Blessing can be seen headlining some of your favourite Irish club nights and even abroad where she has just announced Teletech in Belfast in April, and her Canadian debut in The Hollywood Theatre next month! Her 2023 blessings, such as ‘Take Me The Fuck Out’, show that Shannen is ready and set for the year ahead!
Mav666 @mav.666
Dublin based artist Mav666 has set the tone for what’s to come with her recent releases ‘Say Yes So I Know You Heard Me’ and FourFour debut ‘Solar Plexus’. A dark euphoric and industrial sound distinguishes itself and sets Mav666 apart from other producers with a hypnotic effect. We’ve had the pleasure of witnessing some of Mav’s B2B sets with Shannen Blessing and we can vouch! This duo did not come to play!
Tamisya @tamisya_
Tamisya, who has just given birth to a baby boy (Congratulations Tamisya and Dale!) is a female powerhouse and recently dropped a new mix titled ‘23” heat’ which we have been playing on repeat, since its’ release. Following up from her ‘MILF’ Mix, the one hour, ten minute set blends an upbeat selection of tracks with forceful bass and catching breaks, from start to finish. Did someone leave the immersion on?
Ôneyra @oneyra__
Berlin based Irish artist, Ôneyra is a force to be reckoned with in the booth. Versatile in sound, Oneyra’s ability to adapt to different genres, shows her flexibility as a Dj and reflects in her production. In her latest guest mix for GRND, we hear a more laid back selection progress into heavier tracks and build down to a calm finish. A tactical approach to another memorable set.
Dj Gorgeous @_djgorgeous
On the come up, DJ Gorgeous has span her way into rotation over the past few months alongside her partner in crime, DJ Handsome. We have had the privilege to witness one of their energising sets on Stephen’s Night for Research in Farrier & Draper, and we were mesmerised with engagement and progression during their set. Her new solo mix ‘Tweakers’ showcases back to back bangers at high speed and has us on our toes.
MeltX @meltx__
One of our close alliances, Speed Management artist, Meltx, is invading the techno scene with here noticeable sets and provocative tracks. With her most recent release ‘Pass Out’ remix racking up over 8k listens on Soundcloud, we are on edge waiting for new music and content from this talented producer.
