Heavy Armour: 4 Ways To Incorporate Utility Wear Into Your Look
Utility wear is one trend that has merged from the halo of ‘streetwear’ in recent years and continues to be recognised in collections from high end designers, to the high street. It has evolved and progressed over time into more aggressive trends which is seen now through deconstruction, heavy materials, and sharp shapes and has provided us key statement pieces to be able layer up, inject colour, and add detail to any look.

Cargo pants are a generational statement item and easy to wear! The classic worker style has been reinvented time after time, and depending on the option, and how they are styled, can be worn on and off site. We’ve opted for these caramel Marcelo Burlon trousers and paired them with a panelled Arcteryx hooded fleece. Layered up with a light khaki gilet for extra insulation and finished off with a pair of suede tonal New Balance 2022R trainers.

The leather boot is a key piece of footwear this season and the chunkier the better. Heavy lifting required, the Bottega Veneta Chelsea boot hold up perfectly with a pair of paint camouflage trousers and washed grey hoody from Represent. Locked in with a nylon Stone Island cross bag and Acid x Drop Dead necklace from Vitaly. They go with everything and anything!
Hoody, Represent, £140; Trousers, Maneiére De Voir, €104.95; Boots, Bottega Veneta at Flannels, €845; Cross Bag, Stone Island at Brown Thomas, €205.

If you tend to be more minimalistic, a utility vest is the perfect armour to solidify any basic look. We’ve kept it sharp and paired this belted Burberry vest and with a clean monochrome underset. Adding a technical Salomon trainer and detailed with a chunky silver chain and black sunglasses from Vitaly. Strictly business!

Last but not least, if you like to keep cosy at all times, a fleece is an essential item for your wardrobe, but may need some layering pieces to sign it off. As we move into winter, lighter hues come to the forefront as we await the hails of snow and this light grey panelled Y/Project fleece is on our list. Ready for a trip to the Alps, we’ve slid into a pair of Balenciaga track runners, and added padding with a blue North Face gilet. Cooling off with a pair of Oakley shades and silver links from Swatch. Done.
Fleece, Y/Project at Farfetch, €714; Trousers, Arcteryx, €650; Trainers, Balenciaga at Brown Thomas, €895; Gilet, The North Face at Arnotts, Glasses, Oakley at Selfridges, €220; Watch, Swatch at Fields, €205
